Ancient Current® utilizes the tools of Chinese medicine—acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, tui na massage, and lifestyle & nutritional counseling—to help infants, children and adults lead healthier and happier lives. These traditional modes of healing have endured thousands of years of testing and are employed by Ancient Current® to facilitate lasting changes in your life.

Laurel Axen Carroll, owner and operator of Ancient Current®, is a Licensed Acupuncturist, Board Certified Chinese Herbalist and a DONA Certified Labor Support Doula. She completed her Masters degree in Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York City. Laurel also studied advanced meridian palpation with renowned acupuncturist Dr. Wang Ju Yi at the Tibetan Hospital in Beijing, China. Laurel is currently working on a certification in Maya Abdominal Massage with the Arvigo Institute.

Laurel is a faculty member at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Manhattan where she teaches Obstetrics and Gynecology and worked as a Supervisor in the clinic.

Laurel’s true passion lies in the treatment of female reproductive health. Using the traditional tools of Chinese Medicine such as acupuncture, dietary therapy and herbs, Laurel helps women transition through the fascinating and often challenging stages of conception, pregnancy, birth and beyond. Having had both a natural delivery and a birth via cesarean section, Laurel is physically aware of the challenges facing pregnant women. As a former personal trainer and pilates mat instructor, Laurel A Carroll utilizes her knowledge of movement to help people move more safely and efficiently to avoid repetitive damage.

Laurel completed her undergraduate studies at New York University and has traveled extensively through Southeast Asia and Latin America as a professional photographer. She is married with children and lives with her family in Rockaway Beach, New York where she is an avid student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and surfs whenever humanly possible.
